Spindleworks Brunswick

“HANDICAP, I HEARD ABOUT IT BUT I AIN’T GOT IT NOW”
– Rita Langlois

This is probably one of the most famous lines written/spoken at Spindleworks, and so telling of the outlook of the artists here who break down stereotypes with their unique and wonderful view of the world and their expression of their place in it.

Spindleworks envisions a community where artists of all abilities are valued and inspired to do their best work.

Spindleworks Art Center is a program of the Independence Association of Brunswick Maine whose mission is to assist individuals with intellectual disabilities in obtaining full and inclusive lives in their chosen community.

Values:
Inclusion- We believe in participation in the arts for all members of the community.
Collaboration-We create new opportunities for participation in the arts by collaborating with other community organizations and artists.
Equality-We believe that artists of all abilities make meaningful contribution to the arts.
Leadership-We believe that mentors foster creative growth through a shared skill building approach. All artists share ownership of the studio through planning exhibits, workshops, community events and contributions to a cooperative studio and gallery.
Dream- to learn, to explore and to expand our creative abilities through immersion in new shared experiences.
