BACK TO THE FUTURE

March 6, 2017 Andrew Edwards

Hello my name is Justin and this is my first movie blog! I`ll be talking/writing about fun-facts from some of my favorite movies. Today`s post is about the sci-fi/comedy-classic "BACK TO THE FUTURE" .

First the casting: Did you know that Micheal J. Fox was not the first actor to play Marty McFly?

Although Fox was the only actor who was considered for the role he had to turn it down because of his commitment to the tv sitcom "FAMILY TIES" so the part went to an actor named Eric Stoltz [i think that's how his name is spelled] instead.

However the rest of the cast and crew had problems with his work ethic so Executive Producer Steven Spielberg had to fire him and by that time Fox was able to make his schedule flexible enough to work on both projects!

Next up, THE DELOREAN!: Originally the time machine was going to look a lot more like a refridgerator but Director Robert Zemeckis grew concerned about the possibility that once children saw the movie they would pretend that their refridgerators were time machines as well and lock themselves inside!                        And finally, the sequels!:

Originally "BACK TO THE FUTURE" was going to be a stand-alone film Zemeckis had no desire to make a trilogy but after seeing how successful the first movie was he had a change of heart and made "BACK TO THE FUTURE PART 2" and "BACK TO THE FUTURE PART 3".

Zemeckis even said that if he had intended to make a trilogy he would not have put the girlfriend in the car at the end of "PART 1" [the ending was originally meant to be a joke] [the words 'TO BE CONTINUED....' were later added in on the VHS release]. The 'Cliffhanger' scene also had to be re-shot because Claudia Wells the actress who plays Jennifer [the girlfriend in question] in "PART 1" was unavailable at the time.

Jennifer was played by actress Elizabeth Shue in "PART 2" and "PART 3".

Speaking of replacements the sequels also had some trouble with one of the original actors.

Everyone, aside from wells, agreed to come back except for Crispin Glover [George McFly].

Both sides have different reasons for why he wouldn't come back! Money was part of Glovers' reason for turning down the sequels. Another reason is he didn't want to be typecast!

With prosthetics make-up, special effects and close-up shots of Glover from "PART 1" Jeffrey Weissman took over the role!

The series has only three films but the story doesn't end there! There is also a UNIVERSAL STUDIOS THEME PARK attraction [BACK TO THE FUTURE: THE RIDE],

a cartoon show [BACK TO THE FUTURE: THE ANIMATED SERIES],

a videogame [BACK TO THE FUTURE: THE GAME]

and a 30TH anniversary short-film [DOC BROWN SAVES THE WORLD!].

All featuring the film trilogy star Christopher Loyd!

Well, thats all for this blog entry I hope you guys enjoyed it! See ya' next time. Bye!
