Kelly has two distinct and opposite styles. The comic in her enjoys drawing cartoons in pencil of superheroes, t.v personalities, talking animals, and politicians. Her fascination with pop culture, and detailed knowledge of current events play into much of this work, and she is no stranger to satire. Her other style involves an intense relationship with acrylic paint and collage; starting with paintbrushes and ending with her hands, Kelly paints rich, thick surfaces, embedded with pages from National Geographic magazines (each carefully read prior to its burial in paint). Using both sides of her painting surface (often wood), Kelly transforms a painting into a sculpture, playing with what is the back and what is the front. Most recently Kelly has moved into the realm of 3-D, and is making an army of pez characters–all of her favorites from Star Trek and Star Wars to the Simpsons and the Jackson 5.
